Mr Porter x Prada
I can’t remember the last time I came across a marketing campaign that struck a chord with me the way the current collaborative effort of global menswear retailer MR PORTER and Italian luxury fashion house Prada. The items that make up the new capsule may be far from what I’d usually thrown on but the visuals produced for the 1950’s / 1980’s bowling culture concept are, if you’ll excuse the pun, right up my alley.
Inspired by the retro themes of American bowling culture, the MR PORTER x Prada collaboration infuses 50’s and 80’s menswear reference within a 32 piece capsule that includes Hawaiian prints, pleated trousers, blocked panel cardigans and camp collar shirts.
“The 1950s was a time of celebration and optimism and the clothes that people wore reflected this,” says Daniel Todd (buyer at MR PORTER). “The 1980s have, until recently perhaps, been a maligned era of fashion, but even before bum bags (re)took menswear by storm, there was lots to love from a sartorial standpoint. For me, the aloha shirts are the standout styles from the collection.”
If this is all sounding a little to ‘Fear and Loathing’ versus ‘The Big Lewbowski’ for you then ease your mind by browsing the outstanding visuals below to see how Mr Porter and Prada roll. That’s the last pun – promise.

My personal highlights include this yellow striped crewneck (knitted from a blend of virgin wool and silk) and the aviator sunglasses. Fancy throwing caution to the wind? Maybe this unashamedly kitsch red floral camp collar shirt will suffice?
